In a delightful rural setting just a few kilometers from Sarlat, a small byway will bring you to the Distillerie La Salamandre. Typical of dwellings of Perigord Noir, its steep rooftops with a deep patina of the ages seem to reflect the secret of an ancient alchemy practiced within the rustic shelter of its walls built of stone gathered from the region.
However the savoir-faire of the Gatinel family was born outside of these walls. It is linked to the history of its founder, Raymond Gatinel, who began building his reputation as a "traveling distiller".
